Buttocks Augmentation

Buttock augmentation or gluteoplasty is achieved by implanting specially formed pliable, but firm blocks of non-reactive medical grade silicone into strategic areas of the buttocks to attain a fuller appearance.

Because these are solid blocks, there is no risk of leakage and the silicone is considered non-toxic.

Frequently Asked Questions about Buttock Augmentation

Am I a candidate for Buttock Augmentation?

If you are in good health, have no serious health concerns, and are realistic in your expectations, buttock augmentation may be an ideal procedure for you.  For some, all the weight training and squats simply does not build muscle in the desired portions of the buttock area.  If you fall into this category, buttock augmentation may suit you.

What are Buttock implants made from?

Buttock Implants are normally made from medical grade solid silicone, a pliable,  yet firm, solid piece of silicone.  This solid Silicone is generally well-tolerated by the body and has the capacity to be formed into various shapes.

Normally these blocks of silicone can be carved to custom fit an individual for implantation.  The medical grade silicone is non-reactive and considered non toxic and an excellent choice for augmentation in these areas.

How many techniques are there for Buttock Augmentation?

Depending upon your body’s tissue, the Silicone implants will be custom fit to accommodate your own body style and inserted through an incision hidden in the intergluteal crease  or in the “crack” of the buttocks and placed between the muscle and the fascia.

For Fat Grafting(Brazilian Butt Lift) it is generally the same concept but different techniques, from liposuction of the fat or manual aspiration with a syringe.  Some surgeons centrifuge the fat, or spin it, and remove the excess fluids.  Some surgeons thread it within the muscle, some within the subcutaneous fat areas, and some a combo of these — and even others simple injections.  Please discuss this factor with your surgeon.

What does a typical consultation for Buttock Augmentation entail?

Your surgeon will discuss with you the realistic expectations you must have and what he thinks is possible for the end result.  He will discuss the risks of the procedure. show photos if applicable and discuss with you the details of the procedure itself.  It is possible that your doctor (depending on your measurements and desires) may have to custom fit an implant.  Normally the surgeon will have to custom fit you by carving the inner portion of the implant to fit an individuals glutes.  That way there will be more comfort for the patient.

For Fat he will pinch areas of your body where  fat  has collected in search for viable fat to aspirate and re-implant.

How is a Buttock Augmentation procedure performed?

The procedure is usually performed under Light Sleep Sedation with local anesthetic or general anesthetic.  The patient will be laid  on his/her stomach and an incision will be made in the natural crease underneath the buttock cheek or the “crack”.  A pocket is made under the fascia (thick white covering for muscles) separating it from the muscle itself and the implant is placed between the fascia and muscle.  The implant is situated and then the pocket is sutured.

For Fat Grafting, fat is removed, cleansed and separated then re-injected or threaded into the desired areas.

Does Buttock Augmentation look fake?

Augmentation with Buttock Implants resembles the appearance of a tone and worked out muscle.  They may feel a little firm to the touch.  But no firmer than when a person flexes his/her muscle.  However if too large of an implant is used it can create a Barbie Twins or J LO look.

With fat grafting, severe over correction can cause a very large buttock result.

What should I expect post-operatively?

You are encourage to walk on the next day and to wear a slightly compressive girdle. Ventral decubitus is the ideal position, but you can lie on your back immediately after surgery. You can go back to work in twenty days walking normally.

Is there much pain associated with getting Buttock Augmentation?

Most patients attribute the pain associated with Buttock Augmentation is comparable with a hard workout with those muscle groups.  The prescribed pain medication should alleviate the pain, although if you feel as if the pain you are experiencing is severe, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon or the staff member on call.  You must realize that there is trauma to the surrounding tissues involved with Buttock Augmentation and a moderate amount of pain should be expected.

What scars are involved with Buttock Augmentation?

The scars are hidden  and should flatten and fade with time although they may be red and raised for months. You could incorporate silicone sheeting after the incisions are removed to help fade the resulting scars if they are visible.

For Fat Grafting small scars will result where the fat was removed and the areas which were used to re-implant.  Either way, scar do usually fade as time passes, maturing at about 1 year post-operatively.

Is there a lot of swelling involved with Buttock Augmentation?

The swelling for Buttock Implants is minor although some individuals may have edema (fluid retention) in the tissues more than others. There is considerable trauma to the surrounding tissues and normal swelling and discoloration is normal. If you feel that your swelling is severe do not hesitate to call your surgeon or the staff member on call.

The swelling associated with fat grafting can be mild to moderate, depending.  Edema will be present, as will bruising so prepare  yourself before  hand.

When will I be able to see the results?

The results are immediate although you must wait for the swelling to subside to fully appreciate the end result.

What are the risks of getting Buttock implants?

Although extremely rare, it is possible to bleed post-operatively resulting in another surgery to control and drain the collected blood.  You could develop a post-operative infection and need to have the implant removed, the infection dealt with and still have to wait for several months before an additional surgery can be performed to re-implant.  Loss of sensitivity is common, although temporary.  Permanent sensation loss in general, can and may happen.  There is also the possibility of developing a Seroma which is a mass caused by the accumulation of serum  fluid  within a tissue or organ.  Or a Hematoma which is a localized mass of blood  that is typically confined within an organ, tissue, space, or potential space and may be a result from a broken blood vessel . There is the possibility of shifting of the implant, leading to additional surgeries or pain.  There is also the possibility of a negative reaction to the anesthetic.

* The risk of infection is higher when the incision is placed within the “crack” of the buttocks, for obvious reasons.

How long do Buttock implants last?

Buttock Implants are supposed to last your lifetime, but sometimes  infection rears its ugly head and your implants must be removed, your infection dealt with and then and only then can discussions be made about re-implantation. The implant itself should last your lifetime without degradation. Although, that can not be said for sure as the implant is not at least 80 years old.  But, in theory and in tests involving silicone – the material will last a very long time for its indication.
