Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove fat, usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes. These features make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision.
Eyelid surgery will not remove crow’s feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.
Frequently Asked Questions about Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Is blepharoplasty right for me?
Many of our patients find that the signs of aging are more severe around their eyes than anywhere else.
If sagging, drooping eyes are making you look old and tired, blepharoplasty may be just the solution to revitalize your appearance.
Can a blepharoplasty be done in conjunction with other procedures?
Yes. Some patients choose to combine their eyelid surgery with other rejuvenating procedures such as a facelift, facial implants, or skin treatments.
How long will the results last?
Having an eyelid surgery doesn’t make your eyelids immune from the effects of further aging. The aging process will continue at its usual rate. However, it can serve to turn back the clock, so that you will always look younger and more vital than you would have if you hadn’t had the procedure.
Will I have scarring?
Most scarring following a blepharoplasty is sufficiently minimal that is shouldn’t be visible at all. If you’ve had an upper lid procedure, the incision is made along the lash-line, and for a lower lid procedure, the incision is made in the crease of the lid.
