Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.

Frequently Asked Questions about Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

What sort of problems can rhinoplasty treat?

Nose surgery is an effective treatment not only for cosmetic problems with the appearance of the nose, but also for many breathing problems caused by birth defect or injury.

What does the procedure consist of?

Your specific rhinoplasty might consist of different elements, depending on the problems it is designed to solve. You may have cartilage and tissue removed or added to create the ideal shape for you.

Will I have visible scarring?

In a closed nose surgery procedure, the incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils, so no visible scarring results. In an open nose surgery procedure, an additional incision is made at the base of the nose, where it meets the upper lip between the nostrils, so there may be slight scarring in that area, but the location is not visible to any casual observer.
